HEPA FILTERS AND WHY CCS PROPERTIES USES THEM
Sometimes we receive questions about the equipment we use when we are working on the mold removal and remediation process. One of the items that we use is a Dri-Eaz HEPA 500 air filtration system. This system uses a three-stage air filtration process. The HEPA 500 passes laboratory DOP testing that was conducted per ANSI standards. The Dri-Eaz HEPA 500 efficiency rating is 99.97% against oily aerosol particles down to 0.3 microns.
So, what the heck does that mean? First, HEPA is an acronym for “high-efficiency particulate air [filter]” (as officially defined by the U.S. Dept. of Energy). The efficiency of the filtration system is important because it determines how clean the air will be as it leaves the filter and goes back into the indoor area being scrubbed or cleaned. The filter is cleaning the air. When CCS is working on the mold removal and remediation process, it’s important to scrub the air and remove the mold spores to protect our employees, and clients and prevent cross-contamination of the rest of the house. An additional charcoal filter added to the system helps to remove the odor from the air when we are working on a home that was damaged by fire. The efficiency rating is the key measure of how much cleaner the air will be as it leaves the filter/collector.
